About Sandra Melstad
SLM Consulting, LLC was established in 2012, focused on providing data driven public health solutions to create healthy communities and improve population health guided by prevention, research, and evidence-based public health. SLM Consulting is committed to understanding and addressing factors that affect population health, translating evidence-based practice into public health approaches to advance health equity. SLM Consulting helps clients foster multi-sector collaborations to address priority health issues, building community capacity through training and education to foster change and impact health.
Sandra Melstad, Ph.D., MPH, is the founder and principle public health consultant of SLM Consulting, LLC. Sandra has worked in public health for over 19 years and works across local, state, regional, and national public health-driven organizations focused on a breadth of public health practice, including workforce development and capacity building, evidence-based public health, chronic disease prevention and control, and evaluation. Dr. Melstad is also experienced with engaging diverse community collaborators through facilitation, strategic planning, and action planning. Dr. Melstad uses her experience to adapt to the needs of the project, to achieve measurable outcomes that impact population health. Dr. Melstad has also served in various public health roles working to promote population health through collaborative partnerships. Dr. Melstad is also an adjunct professor at the University of South Dakota Department of Public Health & Health Sciences MPH program. Dr. Melstad’ s research interests include the public health workforce and health equity practice.
Dr. Melstad holds a Master of Public Health with an emphasis on Community Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion from South Dakota State University, and a Ph.D. in Health Sciences from the University of South Dakota.
